About Me

My photo
Im on foreign exchange for one year in Pune India. It's been an interesting transition going from my little town of 4,800 to this hot city of 5 million plus. Everyday is a new adventure here, so I'll try and keep you up to snuff on the latest rickshaw rides and elephant baths.... yes I bathed an elephant.

My new puppy. Everyone, say hello to Duff.

Silly Summer Back Home.

I'm back from India, in Aurora, boring. Out here we have to find ways to entertain ourselves.
I'm taking American History online, and just finished a Sociology course. Its still going to be a little rough trying to catch up as a senior.

Ravi kaka

There really isn't too much I can't tell you about Ravi kaka... well there is a whole lot, but you just can't truely know him without meeting him face to face.

Trip to Mumbai

We (the exchange students and Ravi kaka) went to Mumbai for 2 days in February. We saw the Gateway to India, which was built to welcome the Queen of England to India during the British rule over India. We also went to a planetarium where we watched an entire star and constellation program in Hindi and a children's science museum. We took a long ferry to a small island where there are ancient caves with huge elephants carved into the rock. I just had to take the word of the few that went, most of us didn't want to pay the 250 rupees that they charge foreigners... as opposed to the 10 I think that it was for Indians.

Ganesh Festival

Starting in late August there was a festival celebrated all over India called Ganesh Festival. It lasts for 10 days. Ganesh, the elephant-headed god, is widely worshipped as the supreme god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. Although its celebrated all over India, Maharashtra just happens to be the hotspot for the festivities. All of the exchange students were invited to a parade where they had numerous drumlines and costumed people holding orange flags. Its loud, busy and hot. We didn't find out about the red powder stuff until about the end of the parade..... I'm still not sure exactly what that was for.
