About Me

My photo
Im on foreign exchange for one year in Pune India. It's been an interesting transition going from my little town of 4,800 to this hot city of 5 million plus. Everyday is a new adventure here, so I'll try and keep you up to snuff on the latest rickshaw rides and elephant baths.... yes I bathed an elephant.

Ganesh Festival

Starting in late August there was a festival celebrated all over India called Ganesh Festival. It lasts for 10 days. Ganesh, the elephant-headed god, is widely worshipped as the supreme god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. Although its celebrated all over India, Maharashtra just happens to be the hotspot for the festivities. All of the exchange students were invited to a parade where they had numerous drumlines and costumed people holding orange flags. Its loud, busy and hot. We didn't find out about the red powder stuff until about the end of the parade..... I'm still not sure exactly what that was for.
